Plans

A caution is in order regarding the more complicated drawings / plans presented here.  They are made to accommodate my own shop practices, as such they do not list every step in the process and assume a reasonable amount of woodworking knowledge in the areas of size allowances and the order of operations.  The plans are offered without any further support.  You are free to use them for your own private use.   If you have any problems downloading these files, follow the directions at the bottom of this page.

CAD Workbench This actually isn't a plan; it's a CAD drawing for an easy to build workbench with drawers.  This design is modular and can be modified to suit a particular need.  It is also an example of how to set up a CAD drawing with different components on separate layers; this makes the "take-offs" for subsequent detailed shop drawings much easier.  THIS IS NOT A PLAN.

This drawing is in DWG and DXF formats  (ZIP)
Mobile Base
Design Guide
This is an article with an illustration that explains how to design a mobile base for typical woodworking machinery.   (PDF)
Crosscut Sled
Design Guide
This is an article with an illustration that explains how to design a crosscut sled used on a tablesaw.  (PDF)
Plywood Cutting
Planning Sheet
I usually plan my cuts on plywood manually. When I do use software to plan or record a cutting layout it is in the same CAD package I use to draw project plans. These series of diagrams are for manually laying out cuts on standard 4x8 plywood as well as 5x5 Baltic Birch plywood.  (PDF)
French Cleat A simple drawing that shows the wall hanging cleat system in profile.  This is the method I use to attach cabinets and such to the walls of my shop.  Examples of its use can be found in the shop tour.  (PDF)
Saw Blade Storage Cabinet
Blade Box Drawings This cabinet could be used for other purposes, the only aspect that makes it a saw blade repository is the blade holding insert behind the door.

The plan consists of four pages in PDF format.  The blade holding device within it is not part of the plan set.

CD Holder
Shaker CD Holder It is a little known fact that in the mid 1800's the Shakers were rather progressive audiophiles.  As proof, they were among the first to adopt the use of the compact disk; they used CDs as a means of recording their hymns.

This CD holder is made in traditional Shaker fashion; plain, utilitarian, but eloquent in its simplicity.  The plan for this piece of Americana consists of one page in PDF format.

This is one of the few projects I've made without drawing the plans first.  There are only three parts to it so it isn't that difficult to figure out.  These make nice gifts.  The one shown here is made of Ash with a clear polyurethane finish.

Coffee Table
CoffeeTable A set of drawings for a Mission style coffee table.  The plan consists of five pages in PDF format.
Shaker Shelf

Shaker Shelf A small set of shelves adapted from a much larger example of Shaker work.  The design is very straightforward and is easily adapted to different dimensions.  The plan consists of three pages in PDF format.
Systainers
Systainer_Thumb.gif (4671 bytes) A set of systainer components drawn in SketchUp version 6.  These are not the highest resolution SketchUp components available but they are good for layout planning.
